CANNED FOOD EARNS FREE ADMISSION TO BASKETBALL GAMES

MONTICELLO –
The University
of Arkansas at
Monticello
Student Athlete
Advisory
Committee will
host a canned
food drive
benefiting the
Monticello
Veterans of
Foreign Wars
this weekend at
the 3rd Annual
Dr. Mary Jane
Gilbert Classic.
The SAAC has
titled this
weekend’s food
drive “Slam Dunk
Hunger” to
benefit veterans
and their
families for the
upcoming holiday
season.
Any person that
brings at least
two canned food
items will
receive free
admission for a
full day of the
two-day
basketball
tournament this
weekend,
featuring four
women’s games
and one men’s
game. Another
two cans earns
free admission
for the second
day. The SAAC
encourages fans
to bring more
than the minimum
of two cans.
The UAM women’s
basketball team
is hosting the
3rd Annual Dr.
Mary Jane
Gilbert Classic,
honoring the
program’s
founder and
first head
coach, and the
men’s basketball
team is playing
a non-conference
game on Saturday
against Lemoyne
Owen.
Friday’s
schedule begins
with a 5:30 p.m.
tipoff in the
MJG Classic
between
Arkansas-Fort
Smith and
Southern
Arkansas. UAM
hosts Mobile
after the
UAFS-SAU game
and is scheduled
to tipoff at
7:30 p.m.
Saturday, the
MJG Classic
concludes with
two more games,
beginning with
SAU and Mobile
at noon,
followed by UAM
and UAFS at 2
p.m.
The men’s game
against Lemoyne
Owen is
scheduled to
tipoff at 4 p.m.
on Saturday.
All games will
be played inside
Steelman Field
House.
