WEEVILS END SEASON WITH TWO LOSSES AT HENDERSON STATE

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team saw its season come to a close with two losses to Henderson State on Saturday with final scores of 15-2 and 7-3. Sunday’s series and season finale was cancelled due to rain.
 
In the first game, the two Weevil runs came from the bottom of the lineup with freshman Michael Diffie (El Dorado, Ark.) blasting a solo-home run in the top of the seventh inning, marking his second round-tripper of the season. The other run came in the top of the fifth, when freshman Tyler Ogden (Delhi, La.) hit an RBI single, scoring senior Chris Whatley (Sachse, Texas), who reached on an error earlier in the inning.
 
Freshman Josh Hathcox (Bryan, Texas) ended his season from the mound with an 0-7 record after pitching the first four innings, allowing 10 runs off eight hits.
 
In the second game, the Weevils scored one run in each of the first three innings, but failed to plate any more, allowing the Reddies to complete the double header sweep.
 
In the first inning, sophomore Matt Gardner (West Monroe, La.) hit an RBI-double that scored senior Ryan Pilcher (West Monroe, La.), who reached on a fielder’s choice just one batter earlier.
 
In the second inning, Ogden continued his productive day with another RBI single, this time scoring sophomore Craig Caldwell (West Monroe, La.), who reached on an error earlier in the inning.
 
In the third inning, the Weevils scored their final run when junior Josh Wisnoski (Navasota, Texas) grounded out to the second baseman that allowed Pilcher to score from third base.
 
Sophomore Kevin Lienard (Drew, Miss.) dropped to 0-6 after throwing the full six innings, allowing seven runs off 10 hits.
 
The two teams were scheduled to conclude the three-game series today, but the game was rained out and will not be re-scheduled.
 
UAM, who moves to 0-37 overall and 0-20 in the GSC, ends it season without a win for the first time in school history.
