MONTICELLO – Ronnie Ferrell of Northwest Mississippi Community College and Brock Landry of Jones County Junior College have committed to become Boll Weevils in 2011, announced Friday by head baseball coach Carlos James.

Currently a sophomore for head coach Mark Carson at Northwest Mississippi, Ferrell (5-11, 190) made an immediate impact for the Rangers as a freshman, helping the squad to a 26-16 overall record and third place finish in the MAJC North Division. He started in 32 games and had a .339 batting average with five doubles, two home runs, and 10 stolen bases.

Ferrell played his prep career for head coach Doug Robbins at Water Valley High School in Water Valley, Miss., where he hit .551 with three home runs, 46 runs batted in and 16 stolen bases his senior year. He was a three-time all-district selection and was named most valuable player of the Mississippi Crossroads Classic.

“Ronnie comes from an excellent program at Northwest under Mark Carson and Bill Selby,” said assistant coach Marc MacMillan. “He plays the game the way it should be played and is a hard-nosed, versatile outfielder who can play all three positions. Offensively, he is going to put pressure on the defense while at the same time put up multiple extra base hits. Ronnie brings an attitude, hustle, and style of play that Coach James and I want as a part of this program.”

Landry (5-9, 160) is currently a sophomore at Jones County Junior College under Christian Ostrander, where he was a part of the 2009 team that set the school record for victories, posting a 36-16 mark and qualifying for the MACJC playoffs. In that season, he hit .312 with eight doubles, two home runs, 23 RBI and 20 stolen bases. Landry played his prep career at H.L.Bourgeois High School in Gray, La.

“Brock is a hard-nosed, gritty and talented shortstop that will give us some stability at one of the most important positions on the infield,” said James. “He has a great feel and passion for the game and will be a great leader and mentor to our younger infielders. Brock will provide a huge amount of energy to this program and is no stranger to hard work.”
