head
baseball
coach
Carlos
James
has
announced
the
signing
of
four
high
school
seniors
in
the
early
signing
period
to
join
the
team
for
the
2011
season.
Justin
Hollis,
Keenan
Jumper,
Coda
Medlin,
and
Ross
Wilson
all
recently
signed
national
letters
of
intent
as a
part
of
the
2010
recruiting
class.
"This
group
coincides
with
our
determination
and
effort
in
building
a
championship
program,"
said
James.
"These
are
talented
players
and
quality
students
that
come
from
winning
programs
who
have
the
ability
to
elevate
UAM
Baseball
to
the
upper
echelon
of
the
(Gulf
South)
Conference.
Justin
Hollis,
a
5-9,
160
pound
center
fielder,
comes
to
the
Boll
Weevils
from
Arlington
High
School
in
Arlington,
Tenn.
where
he
helped
lead
the
Tigers
to a
regional
and
sectional
runner-up
finish
in
2009.
Hollis
had
a
.326
batting
average
with
a
.474
on-base
percentage
and
picked
up
22
runs
batted
in,
22
walks
and
10
stolen
bases
along
the
way.
"Justin
is
an
athletic
player
who
comes
from
a
winning
program
in
one
of
the
most
competitive
regions
in
the
state
of
Tennessee,"
said
UAM
assistant
coach
Marc
MacMillan.
"He
is
one
of
the
fastest
runners
in
the
Mid-South
from
home
to
first
and
is a
talented
outfielder
with
excellent
range."
Keenan
Jumper,
a
5-10,
175
pound
catcher,
comes
to
the
Boll
Weevils
from
Wynne
High
School
in
Wynne,
Ark.,
where
he
was
an
all-conference
selection
in
2009.
Jumper
hit
.366
with
a
.600
OBP,
totaling
eight
doubles
and
24
runs
scored.
"Keenan
is a
hard-working,
talented
player
from
right
here
in
Arkansas,"
said
MacMillan.
"He
is a
switch-hitting
catcher
who
I
have
seen
play
since
the
fall
of
2008.
We
feel
we
got
one
of
the
top
catchers
in
eastern
Arkansas
who
will
be a
great
fit
in
our
program.
Coda
Medlin,
a
6-3,
190
pound
right-handed
pitcher,
comes
to
UAM
from
Magnolia
Heights
in
Senatobia,
Miss.
In
2009,
Magnolia
Heights
went
28-6
and
won
the
MPSA
District
II
AAA
State
Championship.
Medlin
went
2-0
in
almost
30
innings
pitched,
while
recording
22
strikeouts
and
finishing
the
year
with
a
3.91
earned
run
average.
"Coda
is a
talented
arm
from
Mississippi
who
comes
from
a
state
championship
program,"
MacMillan
said.
"He
is a
young,
big
pitcher
with
upside
that
Coach
James
and
I
feel
is a
solid
addition
to
our
current
freshmen
arms."
Ross
Wilson,
a
5-9,
150
pound
shortstop,
comes
to
the
Boll
Weevils
from
Germantown
High
School
in
Germantown,
Tenn.
GHS
went
23-10
in
2009,
while
Wilson
hit
.344
with
nine
doubles,
one
triple,
30
runs
scored,
22
RBI
and
13
stolen
bases.
In
our
opinion,
Ross
is
the
top
shortstop
in
the
Mid-South.
He
comes
from
a
program
with
a
great
tradition
of
baseball
success,
said
MacMillan.
He
is a
vacuum
up
the
middle
defensively
who
also
switch
hits
plus
has
excellent
speed
and
base
running
instincts.
James
and
MacMillan
plan
to
release
the
signing
of
three
additional
players
within
the
next
week.
