UAM BASEBALL SUFFERS FIRST SWEEP OF 2010 SEASON
March 3, 2010
Contact: Brian Ramsey, Sports Information Director

THIBODAUX, La. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team suffered its first two consecutive losses of the 2010 season with 18-3 and 15-6 losses to Nicholls State University on Wednesday.

In the 18-3 loss, the Boll Weevils (12-5) scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning, all unearned because of back-to-back fielding errors committed by Nicholls State’s (5-3) third baseman. Senior catcher Noah Sanders recorded an RBI in the inning on a bases-loaded walk, followed by an RBI-sacrifice fly out by senior third baseman Tyler Henry.

Senior Blaine Ivey was the only Boll Weevil to have a multiple-hit game after going 2-for-4 at the plate. Redshirt freshman Kenny Marshall (0-1) was credited with the loss after allowing five runs off four hits.

In the 15-6 loss, junior Michael Diffie gave the Boll Weevils a spark off the bench, going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI. Diffie had an RBI-double in the top of the sixth and added a two-RBI double in the top of the ninth.

True freshman Joe Lamoureux (0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) off three hits with six walks and only strikeout. The Boll Weevils used six pitchers in the loss.

UAM returns home to host GSC opponent Alabama-Huntsville in a four-game non-conference series this weekend, starting with a double-header on Saturday, March 6 at noon. The location of the series has not been determined.
