BASEBALL INKS 3 TO 2010 SIGNING CLASS

has
announced
the
signing
of
three
high
school
seniors.
All
three
will
join
the
team
for
the
2011
season.
Shane
Harris,
Jacob
McDaniel,
and
Johnny
Wolf
all
recently
committed
as
part
of
the
2010
spring
recruiting
class.
"I
am
excited
to
add
Shane,
Jacob
and
Johnny
to
our
list
of
high
school
signees,”
said
James.
“This
group
coincides
with
our
persistent
determination
and
effort
in
building
a
championship
program…
These
are
talented
players
and
quality
students
that
come
from
winning
programs
who
have
the
ability
to
elevate
our
program
to
the
upper
echelon
of
the
(Gulf
South
Conference).”
Shane
Harris,
a
5-10,
190
pound
pitcher/outfielder,
comes
to
UAM
from
Parkers
Chapel
High
School
in
El
Dorado,
Ark.,
where
he
helped
lead
the
Panthers
to a
3A
state
runner-up
finish.
On
the
mound,
Harris
went
6-3
with
a
2.60
ERA
in
40
1/3
inning
pitched
while
striking
out
53
batters.
Offensively,
he
had
a
.383
batting
average
with
a
.585
on-base
percentage
to
go
along
with
14
doubles,
seven
home
runs,
46
runs
scored,
52
runs
batted
in
and
20
stolen
bases.
Harris
was
selected
to
the
3A
All-Tournament
team
for
his
play
in
throughout
the
state
championship
tournament.
"Shane
comes
from
a
winning
program
at
Parkers
Chapel
and
put
up
some
big
numbers
during
his
senior
campaign,"
said
UAM
Assistant
Coach
Marc
MacMillan.
"He
is a
strong,
athletic
player
who
has
the
ability
to
play
multiple
positions."
Jacob
McDaniel,
a
6-1,
265
pound
first
baseman,
joins
the
Boll
Weevils
from
Jonesboro
High
School
in
Jonesboro,
Ark.,
where
he
was
an
all-conference
selection
in
2010.
McDaniel
hit
.353
with
a
.588
slugging
percentage
to
go
along
with
nine
doubles,
three
home
runs
and
33
RBI.
His
performance
this
past
season
earned
his
to
selection
to
the
Jonesboro
Sun
“Best
Under
the
Sun”
team
along
with
his
participation
at
the
Arkansas
High
School
All-Star
Game
at
Baum
Stadium.
"Jacob
attended
our
Fall
Prospect
Camp,
and
we
really
liked
what
we
saw,"
said
MacMillan.
"He
is a
big,
powerful
first
baseman
that
can
pick
it
at
first
as
well
as
drive
the
ball
offensively.”
Johnny
Wolf,
a
6-0,
210
pound
catcher,
comes
to
the
Boll
Weevils
from
Arlington
High
School
in
Arlington,
Tenn.,
where
he
will
join
high
school
teammate
Justin
Hollis,
who
committed
to
UAM
during
the
early
signing
period
this
past
November.
Wolf
helped
lead
the
Tigers
to a
regional
championship
and
sub-state
finish
in
2010.
Offensively,
he
hit.
352
with
a
.496
on-base
percentage
to
go
along
with
five
doubles,
three
home
runs
and
31
runs
scored.
Additionally,
Wolf
was
selected
by
the
Commercial
Appeal
as
one
of
five
finalists
for
the
Shelby-Suburban
Male
“Athlete
of
the
Year”
award.
"Johnny
played
both
football
and
baseball
at
Arlington,
so
he
brings
a
great
deal
of
athleticism
behind
the
plate,"
MacMillan
said.
"He
comes
from
a
successful
program,
and
he
possesses
a
blue
collar
mentality
that
fits
well
with
what
we
are
looking
for
here
at
UAM."
MacMillan
said
the
UAM
baseball
staff
plans
to
announce
additional
commitments
in
the
next
three
weeks.
