MONTICELLO – University of Arkansas at Monticello Head Baseball Coach Carlos James has announced the signing of three high school seniors. All three will join the team for the 2011 season.

Shane Harris, Jacob McDaniel, and Johnny Wolf all recently committed as part of the 2010 spring recruiting class.

"I am excited to add Shane, Jacob and Johnny to our list of high school signees,” said James. “This group coincides with our persistent determination and effort in building a championship program… These are talented players and quality students that come from winning programs who have the ability to elevate our program to the upper echelon of the (Gulf South Conference).”

Shane Harris, a 5-10, 190 pound pitcher/outfielder, comes to UAM from Parkers Chapel High School in El Dorado, Ark., where he helped lead the Panthers to a 3A state runner-up finish. On the mound, Harris went 6-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 40 1/3 inning pitched while striking out 53 batters. Offensively, he had a .383 batting average with a .585 on-base percentage to go along with 14 doubles, seven home runs, 46 runs scored, 52 runs batted in and 20 stolen bases. Harris was selected to the 3A All-Tournament team for his play in throughout the state championship tournament.

"Shane comes from a winning program at Parkers Chapel and put up some big numbers during his senior campaign," said UAM Assistant Coach Marc MacMillan. "He is a strong, athletic player who has the ability to play multiple positions."

Jacob McDaniel, a 6-1, 265 pound first baseman, joins the Boll Weevils from Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Ark., where he was an all-conference selection in 2010. McDaniel hit .353 with a .588 slugging percentage to go along with nine doubles, three home runs and 33 RBI. His performance this past season earned his to selection to the Jonesboro Sun “Best Under the Sun” team along with his participation at the Arkansas High School All-Star Game at Baum Stadium.

"Jacob attended our Fall Prospect Camp, and we really liked what we saw," said MacMillan. "He is a big, powerful first baseman that can pick it at first as well as drive the ball offensively.”

Johnny Wolf, a 6-0, 210 pound catcher, comes to the Boll Weevils from Arlington High School in Arlington, Tenn., where he will join high school teammate Justin Hollis, who committed to UAM during the early signing period this past November. Wolf helped lead the Tigers to a regional championship and sub-state finish in 2010. Offensively, he hit. 352 with a .496 on-base percentage to go along with five doubles, three home runs and 31 runs scored. Additionally, Wolf was selected by the Commercial Appeal as one of five finalists for the Shelby-Suburban Male “Athlete of the Year” award.

"Johnny played both football and baseball at Arlington, so he brings a great deal of athleticism behind the plate," MacMillan said. "He comes from a successful program, and he possesses a blue collar mentality that fits well with what we are looking for here at UAM."

MacMillan said the UAM baseball staff plans to announce additional commitments in the next three weeks.
