 MONTICELLO
– For the first time in at least eight years, the University
of Arkansas at Monticello football team has received one vote
for the latest American Football Coaches Association NCAA
Division II Top 25 Poll.
UAM, which has started the season 2-0 for the first time since
2000, is among four teams from the Gulf South Conference to
either make the Top 25 or receive votes.
“This huge for our program,” said fourth-year head coach
Gwaine Mathews. “It’s all about taking it one step at a time
when you are trying to build up a program…This is definitely a
positive step.”
No. 1 Valdosta State remains atop the poll for the third
consecutive week, while No. 3 North Alabama remains at the third
spot and receives one first place vote after a huge win over
previously ranked No. 4 Carson-Newman.
Defending GSC champion and UAM’s next opponent Delta State
dropped seven spots to No. 17 after a loss to Division I-FCS
opponent McNeese State.
