BOX SCORE

CLEVELAND, Miss. -
The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team was one defensive stand from securing a win over No. 17 Delta State on the road, but allowed DSU's Greg Betterson to haul in a 65-yard touchdown reception that led to a Statesmen win.

UAM was looking to break an 11-game losing streak with the Statesmen.

Sophomore Scott Buisson found senior Tim Harris in the back of the end zone with 10:52 left in the game to tie the game at 24. DSU's Blake Barnes then threw an interception to junior linebacker Jeremy Brown, who returned the pick 36 yards for the go-ahead score.

After a couple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, Delta State responded with a five-play 20-yard drive capped off by a two-yard touchdown run from Trevar Deed. UAM was relieved when Statesmen kicker Tom Santos' extra point attempt bounced off the left goal post to give UAM a 31-30 lead with 2:04 left in regulation.

A failed fourth-down conversion attempt gave the Statesmen offense the football with 1:02 left in regulation. On that drive, Garrett Dewitt found Betterson past his defender along the DSU sideline for what would end up being the game-winning touchdown.
