The University of Arkansas at
Monticello men’s basketball team
suffered a 73-83 loss to the
Delta State Statesmen Thursday
night in front of a season-high
crowd of 485 people inside
Steelman Field House.
The Boll
Weevils (6-6, 1-1 GSC-West) shot
47.4 percent from the field
(27-of-57), 32 percent from
three-point range (8-of-25) and
continued their free-throw
struggles, tallying a final mark
of 47.8 percent from the charity
stripe (11-of-23).
Junior
Jarrell Turner tied his
season-high in leading the Boll
Weevils with 23 points and
connecting on 8-of-13 shots from
the field, 1-of-1 three-pointers
and 6-of-10 free-throws. Junior
Nick Carey followed with a
career-high of 18 points, 12
coming from three-point range,
where he was 4-of-6.
The Statesmen
(11-3, 2-0 GSC-West) shot 48.1
percent from the field
(26-of-54), 43.5 percent from
three-point range (10-of-23) and
67.7 percent from the free-throw
line (21-of-31).
DSU’s Chad
Akins led all scorers with 24
points, followed by four other
Statesmen that reached
double-figures. Eric Spencer and
Joe McCray came off the bench to
score 15 and 12 points,
respectively. Dino Hair and
Roderick Ollie rounded out the
double-figure scorers with 11
and 10 points.
The Boll Weevils continue GSC
play this Saturday, January 16
against Ouachita Baptist in
Arkadelphia. Tipoff is set for
approximately 5 p.m. at Bill
Vining Arena.
