MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at
Monticello men’s basketball team
is now sporting a three-game win
streak thanks to a 75-64 victory
over Alabama-Huntsville inside
Steelman Field House on Friday
evening.
The Boll Weevils (4-3) were led
in scoring by a pair of
first-year transfers. Senior Gil
Verner (Nicholls State Univ.)
and junior Jarrell Turner (South
Suburban College) each scored 21
points in the win.
Verner nailed 4-of-9 field goal
attempts, all four coming from
three-point range, and also
connected on 9-of-10 free throw
attempts, including a stretch of
eight consecutive made. Verner
added six rebounds, eight
assists and one blocked shot to
his totals.
Turner recorded his first
double-double of the season with
his 21 points and also collected
14 rebounds. He was 8-of-13 from
the field and 5-of-10 from the
free-throw line. He also had
four assists and one steal.
As a team, UAM shot 55.6 percent
from the field (25-of-45), 53.3
percent from three-point range
(8-of-15) and 69.6 percent from
the free-throw line (16-of-23).
The Chargers (5-3) shot 41.7
percent from the field, 27.6
percent from three-point range
and 65.4 percent from the
free-throw line. UAH had three
players finish in
double-figures, led by Josh Yost
with 14 points. Cody Jones added
11 points and Tyler Hanback had
10.
