WICHITA,
Kan. –
In front
of a near capacity crowd of
10,214 at Charles Koch Arena on
Wednesday night, the University
of Arkansas at Monticello men’s
basketball team was defeated by
Wichita State University by a
final score of 79-50 in the
opening round of the O’Reilly
Auto Parts CBE Classic.
The loss
does not count against the Boll
Weevil’s overall record, which
still stands at 1-0 after the
94-65 win over Crowley’s Ridge
College on Monday. The game
against Wichita State and next
week’s games against Duquesne
and Western Carolina are
considered exhibition contests
for UAM, but are official games
for each opponent.
In the
loss to WSU (2-0), the Boll
Weevils were once again led by
junior DeAngelo McIntosh, who
tied for the team-lead of nine
points after connecting on
4-of-8 field goal attempts and
added one three-point shot to
his final totals. McIntosh also
had four rebounds and two steals
in the loss.
Senior
Jermaine Samuels also racked up
nine points in the loss after
hitting 3-of-5 field goal
attempts and 3-of-4 free throw
shots.
The
Shockers had four players reach
double-figures in the contest,
highlighted by the game-high
total of 15 points scored by
both JT Durley and Toure Murry.
David Kyles and Gabe Blair
followed with 11 points each.
As a team,
UAM shot just over 42 percent
from the field (19-of-45), 36
percent from three-point range
(4-of-11) and 66 percent
(8-of-12) from the foul line.
WSU
finished the game shooting
almost 44 percent from the field
(28-of-64), 29 percent from
three-point range (5-of-17) and
75 percent (18-of-24) from the
foul line.
The Boll
Weevils step out of play in the
O’Reilly CBE Classic for a brief
stop at home for a 4 p.m. tipoff
against LeMoyne-Owen this
Saturday, November 21 at
Steelman Field House.
