MAGNOLIA,
Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello
softball team scored 20 runs in two victories over Southern
Arkansas with final scores of 9-0 in the first game and 11-9
in the second game.
Senior Meredith Heckel (Hot Springs, Ark.) led the
team with four hits and five RBI combined in both contests.
She went 1 for 2 in the first game with a run scored, while
going 3 for 3 in the second game with two home runs and five
RBI.
Also performing well in the first game was junior Lindsay
Randall (Keithville, La.) and sophomore Becca Tipton
(Dermott, Ark.), who both went 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Junior Heather Greer (Hollandale, Miss.) continued
her hot streak, blasting her second home run of the season
with a three-run shot to left field in the bottom of the
fifth to force the game to end due to the NCAA’s eight-run
mercy rule.
Besides Heckel’s two home runs in the second game, Tipton
and sophomore Kayla Temple (West Monroe, La.) each
produced two runs. Both had two-RBI singles in the fourth
inning.
UAM scored seven runs in the fourth inning off six hits,
including a double each for Randall and senior Jenny Dunn
(Adelaide, Australia).
Senior Kate Brady (Longview, Texas) recorded the win
in both games after throwing a complete game shut out in the
first game and recording the win in relief in the second
game. Brady (13-10) only allowed nine base hits in her just
over six innings of work.
The Blossoms ended their regular season by improving to
22-29 overall and 15-14 in the GSC. The team will likely
play Alabama-Huntsville in the first round of the 2008 GSC
Championship Tournament starting on May 2 in Southaven,
Miss.
