MONTICELLO – University of Arkansas
at Monticello softball coach Alvy Early has announced the signing of
three high school seniors to join the team for the 2011 season.
Beth Johnson will join the team from Lovejoy High School in
Allen, Texas to primarily play centerfield. “Beth is an exceptional
athlete,” said Early. “She is very skilled in the outfield and has
outstanding speed.”
Brittany Eitel will join the team from Hallsville High School in
Hallsville, Texas where she was the catcher for current UAM pitcher and
defending GSC-West Pitcher and Freshman of the Year Kayla Jackson.
“Brittany has caught (Jackson) before, so she already has a head start
on the adjustment to UAM,” said Early. “She has great blocking skills, a
great arm and she can hit.”
Summer Huddleston will join the team from Quitman High School in
Quitman, Texas to feel the void left by current senior Emilie Hobbs.
“Summer is one of the better contact hitters I have come across
recently,” said Early. “I am excited she chose UAM.”
“All three of these young ladies meet a need that the team will have
after this year’s graduation,” said Early. “I feel really confident
about the ability of these ladies and I am also excited to have them
signed in the early period.”
