September 16, 2009
Contact: Brian Ramsey, UAM Sports Information

MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team only allowed Lyon College to reach 20 points in one set in route to a 3-0 win Wednesday night in UAM’s first home match of the 2009 season.

Final scores were 25-20, 25-19 and 25-15. UAM improves to 2-9, while Lyon drops to 4-10.

Senior Sara Kindred (Frisco, Texas) led all players with 13 kills on 24 attempts, but it was true freshman Amanda Dills’ smart hitting that highlighted the match.

Dills (Buckley, Wash.) had seven kills on 10 attempts with no errors for a final .700 attack percentage, good enough for second place in UAM’s record book for a single match behind current senior Nicole Ferguson’s .786 match in 2006.

Ferguson (Brentwood, Tenn.) also had an impressive final percentage after racking up four kills on six attempts with only one error for a final .500 attack percentage.

Senior Cayla Knapp’s numbers were also impressive. The South Lake Tahoe, Calif. native had seven kills on 13 attempts with only one error for a final .462 attack percentage, easily her best of the season. She also led all players from the front row with three solo blocks.

Junior Vikki Crisco (Saginaw, Texas) turned in 35 set assists from the front row, marking her sixth match of the season with at least 30. She also had one kill, one service ace and one defensive dig in the match.

Defensively, Kindred led all players with 12 digs, while junior Stephanie Hatten (Baytown, Texas) racked up nine.

The Cotton Blossoms continue non-conference play next Tuesday, September 22 in Little Rock, Ark. against Philander Smith. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
