MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas
at Monticello volleyball team ended its
non-conference portion of the 2009 schedule with
a 3-0 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce on Monday.
Final game scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-16.
With the win, TAMU-Commerce improves to 23-8,
while UAM drops to 15-17.
TAMU-Commerce’s Naomi Mays led the Lions with a
match-high 11 kills on 30 attempts with five
errors for a final .200 hitting percentage.
Freshman Danielle Wages led the Blossoms with
five kills, followed by freshman Amanda Dills
and senior Cayla Knapp with four each.
The Blossoms conclude the regular season with
pair of Gulf South Conference-West Division
matches, starting Tuesday night at home against
Arkansas Tech at 7 p.m., followed by the regular
season finale on Saturday, November 7 at
Christian Brothers starting at 1 p.m.
The season will not end on Saturday, as UAM will
participate in the GSC Championship Tournament
for the third time in the five-year history of
the program. All four spots from the GSC-West
have been clinched, but seeding is yet to be
determined. Also to be determined is the host
institution. The winner of the GSC-West will
host this year’s event.
Tuesday night’s match against Arkansas Tech will
be the last home match for five seniors - Sara
Kindred, Nicole Ferguson, Cayla Knapp, Mallory
Storm and Rishaunda McKinney. A special
presentation will take place at the conclusion
of the match to honor their careers at UAM.
