BLOSSOMS FALL IN GSC OPENER
September 26, 2008
Contact: Brian Ramsey, UAM SID

MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team lost in three straight games to Henderson State on Thursday night to start the 2008 Gulf South Conference portion of the schedule.

Final game scores were 22-25, 19-25 and 23-25. UAM was looking to improve by one win over last season’s win total just halfway through the season.

Aiding to the loss was the team’s poor hitting percentage. UAM hit .135, while HSU hit .213.

The Blossoms were led by efforts of junior Jalynn Thornton (Pleasant Grove, Utah) and senior Taura Rush (Joseph City, Ariz.), both securing 10 kills in the match. Rush led the team with a .391 match hitting percentage after only committing one error on 23 attempts.

With the loss, UAM drops to 11-6 overall and 0-1 in GSC games, while HSU improves to 2-11 overall and 1-1 in GSC games.

The Blossoms host the second UAM Volleyball Classic of the season starting today (Friday, September 26), when UAM takes on Philander Smith College at 5 p.m., followed by a match against West Alabama. The classic concludes Saturday with three matches starting at 9 a.m. Other teams participating are Southern Arkansas and Cameron.
