Blossoms Tally GSC Road Win at OBU
January 17, 2008
ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas –
Freshman Erika Brown led the
University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms with a
double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds over Ouachita Baptist on
the road in Gulf South Conference action with a final score of
62-54.
The win also marked the first GSC win for head coach Chris Ratcliff
in the Bill Vining Arena at OBU.
Brown (Shreveport, La.) led the team in scoring after
connecting on 6-of-11 field goal attempts and also led the team with
four free throws made. Brown also added one assist and one steal in
her 29 minutes of action.
Other top scorers for the Blossoms included junior Andrea Dubose
(Newton, Miss.), who finished the game with 12 points. Dubose
made two three-point baskets and was 5-of-16 from the field.
Senior Shakia Sanders (Chester, S.C.) logged productive
minutes off the bench with a final total of 11 points. Sanders also
pulled down six boards.
Dubose and senior Gemma Gibson (Dodd City, Texas) both tied
for a game-high in steals with four each. Dubose was ranked fourth
in the nation in steals per game prior to this contest.
The Blossoms nearly finished with a better three-point percentage
than overall field goal percentage. The Blossoms combined to shoot
35 percent from beyond the three-point line, and shot just 36
percent from the field for the entire game. As a team, UAM made
seven three-pointers out of 20 attempts.
The Lady Tigers were led from efforts of Haley Griffin, who was the
game’s high scorer with a final total of 23 points. Griffin was
9-of-16 from the field.
The Blossoms have little time to rest. Nationally ranked No. 2 Delta
State travels to Monticello Saturday for a GSC game. Delta State is
currently undefeated. The game starts at 2 p.m. in the Steelman
Fieldhouse.
The game can be heard live on the radio at KHBM-FM 93.7, which will
