RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team was unable to keep up with the high field goal shooting percentage of the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns in a 53-75 loss Saturday at Tucker Coliseum.
The Cotton Blossoms (9-11, 3-5 GSC-West) had won two in a row prior to Saturday’s loss with consecutive home wins over Southern Arkansas and Christian Brothers.
In Saturday’s loss to Arkansas Tech (20-1, 7-1 GSC-West), the Cotton Blossoms struggled from the field for the entire game and finished the contest shooting 29 percent, but the team had more problems from three-point range, where the team made only one trey on 23 attempts for just over four percent.
Senior Erica Williams and freshman LaChasity Seale tied for the team-high lead in scoring with 10 points each. Williams was 5-of-9 from the field, while Seale was 2-of-15 from the field and made most of her points from the free-throw line, where she was 6-of-8.
The Golden Suns made good use of their home-court advantage, finishing the game shooting 55.6 percent from the field (30-of-54), 50 percent from three-point range (2-of-4) and 84.6 percent from the free-throw line (11-of-13).
ATU’s Laura Beth Anderson led all scorers with 18 points after making 8-of-10 shots from the field and 2-of-3 free-throws. Jenny Vining and Natalia Santos also reached double-figures with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
