MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team sunk 11 three-pointers in a crushing 77-52 win over Christian Brothers inside Steelman Field House Thursday night.
The Cotton Blossoms (9-10, 3-4 GSC-West) made 44.6 percent of their shots from the field (29-of-65), 52.4 percent from three-point range (11-of-21) and 100 percent from the foul line (8-of-8).
Individually, UAM placed three scorers in double-figures. Sohomore Chelsea Johnson led her team with 15 points after making 5-of-7 shots from the field, all from behind the three-point arc. Redshirt freshman Erica Williams followed closely with 14 points, while senior Yelitza Rivera rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points.
The Cotton Blossoms easily won the rebound battle with a final margin of 43-25. The team also recorded its second straight outing with 20 assists. Williams and freshman LaChasity Seale tied for the team lead in that category with four each.
UAM took the lead on its first offensive possession of the game and never looked back, growing its lead to as much as 26 points with 9:54 left in the second half.
The Lady Buccaneers (14-6, 5-3 GSC-West) shot 42 percent from the field (21-of-50), 14.3 percent from three-point range (2-of-14) and 57.1 percent from the foul line (8-of-14).
CBU’s Tameka Wooten and Sheena DeBose tied for the game-high in points with 17 each. DeBose made 7-of-10 shots from the field and 3-of-4, while Wooten made 6-of-12 from the field, including two three-pointers.
UAM continues Gulf South Conference play this Saturday, February 6 against the seventh-ranked Arkansas Tech Golden Suns. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. inside Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.
