MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello could not pull off the upset of the No. 2 Delta State Lady Statesmen at home, falling 69-83 in front of a season-high crowd of 535 people inside Steelman Field House.
The Blossoms (7-7, 1-1 GSC-West) shot 52.2 percent from the field (24-of-46), 50 percent from three-point range (7-of-14) and 63.6 percent from the free-throw stripe (14-of-22). Juniors Erika Brown and Nykita Gordon led the team with 13 points each.
The Lady Statesmen (13-0, 2-0 GSC-West) shot 54.4 percent from the field (31-of-57), 25 percent from three-point range (2-of-8) and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line (19-of-26). Senior Bug Cooper led all scorers with 27 points and came close to a double-double with eight assists. Sophomore Veronica Walker and junior Ashley Martin also reached double-figures with 18 and 10 points, respectively.
UAM continues GSC play this Saturday, January 16 in Arkadelphia against Ouachita Baptist University. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
