MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team had five players reach double-figures in an 88-81 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on the final day of the 3rd Annual Dr. Mary Jane Gilbert Classic.
Sophomore Chelsea Johnson led the Blossoms with 19 points, followed in order by freshman LaChasity Seale with 15, junior Nykita Gordon with 13, freshman Erica Williams with 12 and freshman Emili Slamons with 10.
Johnson was 4-of-14 from three-point range to record 12 of her 19 points in 28 minutes of action.
The Cotton Blossoms (1-1) outscored the Lions (0-2) 52-40 in the first half, but UAFS shot just over 60 percent from the field in the second half to outscore UAM 41-36.
The Lions were led by a game-high 20 points from Tracey Parsons, who connected on 10-of-13 field goal attempts and added two rebounds and two steals two her totals.

The Cotton Blossoms travel to San Antonio, Texas next week to face St. Mary’s University on Tuesday, November 24 at 5:30 p.m., followed Wednesday with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Incarnate Word.
