Weevils Swept by Arkansas Tech with 11-5 Loss On Saturday Afternoon

MONTICELLO – Arkansas Tech swept The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team after beating the Weevils in the final game of the series with a score of 11-5 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Weevils allowed Tech to score three runs in the top of the first inning and four runs in the top of the fourth to gain a lead large enough to secure a three-game sweep.
 
Senior Chris Whatley (Sachse, Texas) went two for four from the plate to lead the Weevils. Whatley was responsible for two of the UAM runs with an RBI-double in the bottom of the third inning and an RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
Junior Josh Wisnoski (Navasota, Texas) and sophomore Matt Gardner (West Monroe, La.) both tallied two hits and one RBI in the game.
 
Freshman Stuart Morgan (Benton, Miss.) recorded his third loss of the season after allowing nine runs off 10 hits in just over five innings of work.
 
The Wonder Boys were led by efforts from Tony Sanchez (2-4, three RBI) and Jantzen Black (2-6, two RBI). Caleb Powers was credited with the win, improving his season record to 2-1.
 
With the loss, UAM drops its season record to 0-23 overall and 0-6 in the GSC, while Tech improves to 17-10 overall and 6-0 in the GSC.
 
Next for the Weevils is a non-conference game at Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday, March 26 starting at 6 p.m.
