selected
to
the
2009
All-Gulf
South
Conference
Baseball
Second
Team,
announced
by
the
league
office
on
Thursday.
Harper
(Meridian,
Miss.)
finished
third
on
the
team
with
a
.346
batting
average
after
racking
up
37
hits
in
107
at
bats
throughout
the
season.
He
also
totaled
eight
doubles,
one
homerun
and
16
RBI,
while
picking
up a
team-high
seven
stolen
bases
on
10
attempts.
He
finished
the
season
slugging
.449
and
reaching
base
in
just
over
40
percent
of
his
at
bats.
Primarily
a
right-fielder,
Harper
collected
38
putouts
and
two
assists
with
only
one
error
for
a
final
.976
fielding
percentage.
Ivey
(Baton
Rouge,
La.)
finished
the
season
fifth
on
the
team
with
a
.305
batting
average
with
43
hits
in
141
at
bats.
Ivey
led
the
team
in
homeruns
(10)
and
RBI
(29),
while
slugging
.603
and
reaching
base
in
38
percent
of
his
at
bats.
Ivey
bounced
around
the
field
defensively,
playing
18
games
in
right
field,
13
games
as
the
designated
hitter,
10
games
behind
the
plate
as
catcher,
and
one
game
as
the
team’s
pitcher.
Throughout
the
season,
he
picked
up
70
putouts
and
12
assists
with
three
errors
for
a
final
.965
fielding
percentage.
Ouachita
Baptist’s
Will
Gowdy
was
dubbed
the
GSC-West
Player
of
the
Year,
while
fellow
Tiger
teammate
Brock
Green
earned
GSC-West
Freshman
of
the
Year
honors.
Southern
Arkansas
led
the
GSC-West
with
10
overall
selections
to
the
all-conference
squads,
including
seven
first
team
selections
and
three
second
team
selections.
Delta
State
finished
a
close
second
with
seven
overall
selections,
six
first
team
and
one
second
team.
