The BWBR had a few minutes to sit down
with Head Coach Carlos James to discuss the conclusion of fall practice,
the early signing period, and what's next for Boll Weevils Baseball.
With Fall
Practice concluded, what are your overall thoughts?
I am very pleased with our 'TEAM' here at
the end of fall. I emphasize the word team
for the simple fact that our guys have come together and realized that
all Championship Teams and programs exhibit that unselfishness needed to
succeed. We are headed in the right direction here at UAM, and our guys
are excited about the upcoming offseason workouts.
It looks like you had a strong early
sign recruiting class. When was the last time UAM signed this many
players early and was it a point of emphasis to go after players who
come from winning programs? We did very well in the early
signing period, and I am not sure if we have ever signed this many
(seven) here this early. It is a tribute to the efforts of our staff
that was headed up by Coach Mac, our recruiting coordinator, and the
attention and visibility that our program is beginning to attract. We
made a conscious decision to go after the players we were able to sign,
and they are exceptional individuals off the field and in the classroom
that so happen to be very talented baseball players that come from
winning programs. This class will add to the core group of young,
talented players we brought in this season.
We are excited about our future here at UAM!!
Whats next for
the Boll Weevils as you prep for the start of the regular season?
We need to finish strong in the classroom
and get mentally prepared for the challenge that's ahead of us.
