BUISSON, WILSON EARN ALL-REGION HONORS
January 14, 2009
Contact: Brian Ramsey, UAM Sports Information

MONTICELLO – Sophomore quarterback Scott Buisson and senior offensive lineman Joe Wilson have been named to the 2008 Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-Region Third Team.

Buisson (Metairie, La.) earns the accolade after being named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Year for his outstanding sophomore campaign. This award is added to his already impressive resume.

In 2007, Buisson was named the GSC’s Freshman of the Year, named GSC Player of the Week twice and also earned national player of the week honors for breaking UAM’s single-game total offense record in a win over Harding.

This season, Buisson broke his own record with 640 yards of total offense in the team’s 51-48 win over Henderson State. Also in that game, he became the first player in NCAA history, at any level, to pass for at least 400 yards and rush for at least 200 yards in a single game. That performance earned him his second national player of the week honor as well as GSC Player of the Week honors.

Most recently, Buisson was honored at the 5th Annual Little Rock Touchdown Club Awards Banquet as UAM’s most valuable player for the second consecutive year.

Wilson (West Memphis, Ark.) adds this award to his trophy case along with a 2008 All-GSC Second Team selection. Wilson started all 11 games this season on the offensive line and finished the season with a grade-out of 82 percent, including his best performances against Arkansas Tech (90 percent), Delta State (89 percent) and West Georgia (89 percent).

More impressively, Wilson did not allow a single quarterback sack this season, while recording 31 knockdowns.

Including Buisson and Wilson, 37 spots on the three teams released represent players from GSC institutions, including 16 first team selections, 12 second team selections and nine third team selections.
