November 12, 2009
Contact: Brian Ramsey, Sports Information Director

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team placed one player on the 2009 All-Gulf South Conference First Team and two on the second team, selected by the league’s head coaches.

Junior Carlton Johnson (Panama City, Fla.) earned All-GSC First Team honors after leading UAM in tackles in the 2009 season. The 6-2, 190 pound linebacker finished the season with 81 tackles (42 solo), including 3.5 tackles for a loss of a combined 21 yards. Of those tackles for a loss, Johnson picked up 2.5 sacks for a loss of 18 yards. He also recorded five pass deflections, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble.

Johnson finished the season ranked seventh among all GSC players in total tackles.

Junior Jywin Ceaser (Marrero, La.) earned All-GSC Second Team honors after leading UAM in receptions and receiving yards. The 5-10, 180 pound receiver caught 61 passes for 885 yards with five touchdown catches. Ceaser had three games of at least 100 yards receiving, including his season high of 10 catches for 187 yards in the 44-17 homecoming win over Harding.

Ceaser finished the season ranked fourth in the GSC in receiving yards per game (88.5) and sixth in receptions per game (6.1).

Junior Michael Servantes (Fresno City, Calif.) earned All-GSC Second Team honors as a kick-blocking specialist. Servantes started every game except the season opener for UAM at free safety, but he was also very valuable to the special teams. He tied the league-lead with two blocked kicks, both coming in UAM’s 34-32 win over then ranked No. 14 Ouachita Baptist. His first blocked kick was returned for a touchdown and his second blocked kick won the game for UAM, as OBU was attempting a potential game-winning field goal with 32 seconds left in regulation.

North Alabama led the way with 17 total selections to the All-GSC squads, including nine first team honorees. Arkansas Tech also broke the double-digit barrier with 10 total selections, including five on the first team.
