PITTSBURG, Kan. –
University of
Arkansas at
Monticello junior
football players
Jywin Ceaser and
Carlton Johnson have
been selected to the
2009 Don Hansen’s
Football Gazette
All-Super Region Two
squads.
Ceaser was named to
the All-Super Region
Two Second Team,
while Johnson earned
third team honors.
Both earned honors
at the Gulf South
Conference level as
well. Ceaser earned
All-GSC second team
honors as a receiver
and Johnson was an
All-GSC first team
linebacker. All
first and second
team selections are
eligible for
all-America honors,
so Ceaser has a
chance to become
UAM’s first
all-America
selection in
football since 2004.
For Ceaser (Marrero,
La.), the awards
continue to
accumulate. On
January 6, the
Little Rock
Touchdown Club chose
to honor Ceaser as
the most valuable
player for UAM in
the 2009 season. The
LRTDC will honor
Ceaser and each MVP
from all other
Arkansas
institutions at its
6th Annual Awards
Banquet on February
15.
Ceaser finished the
2009 season ranked
sixth in the GSC in
receptions per game
(6.10), fourth in
receiving yards per
game (88.5) and 10th
in all-purpose yards
per game (93.7).
Overall, he caught
61 passes for 885
receiving yards with
five touchdowns
catches. He became
just the second
receiver in the
Gwaine Mathews era
as head coach
(2005-present) to
record more than 800
receiving yards in a
single season.
Johnson (Panama
City, Fla.) had an
impressive junior
campaign, racking up
a team-high 81
tackles (42 solo),
including 3.5
tackles for a loss
of a combined 21
yards. Of those
tackles for a loss,
he picked up 2.5
sacks for a loss of
18 yards. He also
recorded five pass
deflections, one
quarterback hurry
and forced one
fumble. He finished
the season ranked
seventh among all
GSC players in total
tackles.
The Gulf South
Conference was well
represented with
almost 41 percent
(38 players) of the
93 players selected
to the three teams
combined.
