MONTICELLO –
The Little Rock
Touchdown Club has
chosen to honor
junior wide receiver
Jywin Ceaser as the
University of
Arkansas at
Monticello Most
Valuable Player for
the 2009 season.
Along with MVPs from
all other football
playing institutions
in Arkansas, Ceaser
will be honored at
the club’s 6th
Annual Awards
Banquet on Monday,
February 15 at the
Embassy Suites Hotel
in Little Rock. The
event is set to
begin at 7 p.m.
Ceaser became just
the second receiver
in Gwaine Mathews’
era as head coach
(2005-present) to
record more than 800
receiving yards in a
single season with
885 on 61 receptions
with five touchdowns
catches in 2009.
With the exception
of yards per catch,
he led UAM in all
pass-receiving
categories.
The Marrero, La.
native earned 2nd
Team All-Gulf South
Conference honors
after finishing the
2009 season ranked
sixth in the league
in receptions per
game (6.10), fourth
in receiving yards
per game (88.5) and
10th in all-purpose
yards per game
(93.7).
Throughout his 2009
campaign, he
recorded at least
100 receiving yards
on three different
occasions and had
two games of 10
receptions, led by
his season-best
performance of 10
catches for 187
yards with one
touchdown in the
44-17 homecoming
over Harding on
October 24. He also
posted 10 receptions
for 165 yards with
two touchdowns in
the 27-3 win over
Arkansas-Pine Bluff
on September 5.
Ceaser’s third best
performance was
eight catches for
124 yards in 13-27
loss to then ranked
No. 1 North Alabama
on October 31.
In addition to his
pass receiving
numbers, he had four
rushes for five
yards and three
kickoff returns for
47 yards with a long
return of 19 yards
in the
season-opening loss
to Tarleton State.
Throughout his
three-year career as
a Boll Weevil,
Ceaser currently
ranks second in the
UAM football record
book with 151 career
receptions and
fourth with 1,825
career receiving
yards. His 885
receiving yards in
2009 is ninth best
total at UAM for a
single-season.
The Boll Weevils
posted a 5-6 overall
record and a 4-4
record in GSC games
this past season to
finish tied for
fifth place in the
league, just one
place below where
UAM was predicted to
finish in the
preseason.
