MONTICELLO,
Ark. – Head football coach for the
University of Arkansas at Monticello Gwaine Mathews has
finalized his coaching staff for the upcoming 2008 season.
All three of the new assistant coaches will handle the Boll
Weevil offense, which finished the 2007 season ranked third in
the Gulf South Conference in total offense, first in rushing
offense.
Taking over the helm at offensive coordinator is Matt
Middleton. Middleton has been coaching for seven years, all
on the offensive side of the ball. Most recently, Middleton was
the head football coach and athletic director at Cenla Christian
Academy in Pineville, La. There, he brought the first year
program to a No. 4 ranking in the state.
Prior to Cenla, Middleton was the head football coach and
athletic director at Caldwell Parish High School in Columbia,
La., where he turned a 1-9 team into an 8-3 team in his first
season. His offense at CPHS averaged just over 40 points per
game and averaged 495 yards of total offense per game. He led
CPHS to its 5th playoff appearance in 44 years, 2nd playoff
appearance in the last 18 years, and 2nd winning season in the
last 18 years.
Middleton has spent time at the collegiate level. In 2004,
Middleton served a brief term as wide receivers coach and
assistant recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division II perennial
powerhouse Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.
Prior to that, Middleton spent two seasons as an undergraduate
assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, aiding in the team’s 2001
Western Athletic Conference Championship.
Middleton is a graduate of Louisiana Tech and has two sons, Luke
and Cade.
Joining the Weevils as offensive line coach is Derek Warehime.
Prior to joining UAM, Warehime was a graduate assistant coach at
Rice University for two seasons. During this past season,
Warehime aided the team to breaking 40 offensive school records.
While at Rice, Warehime worked with the offensive line,
especially with centers and guards, while also being the
assistant video coordinator.
Prior to his time at Rice, Warehime spent one season at his alma
mater, the University of Tulsa, where he was a student assistant
with the offensive line of the 2005 Conference USA champions.
Warehime spent one season playing with the Arena Football
League’s Tulsa Talons, where he was a member of the 2005 Western
Division champions. Prior to that, Warehime started 34 games for
Tulsa, earning 1st Team All-WAC honors as a center during his
senior season.
Warehime and his wife Kelly were married June 1, 2007.
Joining the Weevils as wide receivers coach is Dan Fodrocy.
Fodrocy has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at
Grand Valley State. There, he aided the team to a 27-1 record,
including a NCAA Division II national title and two Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. Also during
his two years at GVSU, Fodrocy worked with two All-America
players in wide receiver, Eric Fowler, and linebacker Anthony
Adams.
Fodrocy is a graduate of Sagniaw Valley State University, where
he lettered four years, playing on three D-II national playoff
teams in 2002, 2003 and 2005. During his prep career, Fodrocy
played on the 2000 Wisconsin Division Eight State Championship
team at Muskegon Catholic Central High School.
Fodrocy is engaged to Jessica Schwartz of Saginaw, Mich.
These three assistants join Mathews and assistant head coach
Donald Dykes for the 2008 season, which is scheduled to
start Saturday, Aug. 30, when the Weevils travel to Pine Bluff,
Ark. to face the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for a 6
p.m. kickoff.
