Joe Don

In the early 1980’s, UAM fans knew their quarterback not by his last name, but by his first two. Joe Don Samples of Huntsville achieved that rare athletic notoriety of being known by fans and the media as just plain "Joe Don." But there was nothing plain about his play. Samples set UAM records (since broken) for passing yards in a game, season and career during his playing days from 1982-85.
