Weevils Overcome Early Deficit in 82-62 Win Over Central Baptist
January 8, 2008
MONTICELLO,
Arkansas – Central Baptist held a
seven point lead midway through the first half, but
Arkansas-Monticello fought back to gain a 20-point win over the
Mustangs in the last home non-conference game of the season.
Junior Raymond Wright (New York, N.Y.) sank a lay-up at the
10:44 mark in the first half to give the Weevils a 17-16 lead. That
basket was the 10th point in a 13-0 UAM run that gained the
advantage, which was never lost for the remainder of the game.
Wright, who was named the Gulf South Conference West Division Player
of the Week last Wednesday, turned in his fifth double-double of the
season with a 27-point, 13 rebound performance. He connected on a
game-high 10-of-12 field goal attempts, while sinking 7-of-9 free
throws.
Three other Weevils shared the second-best total on the team.
Sophomore Derek Easter (El Dorado, Ark.), freshman
D’Angelo Dean (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior Bernard Seymour
(Biloxi, Miss.) all had 13 points, respectively. Easter finished
with a double-double after also pulling down 11 boards. Dean added
seven boards to his final numbers after getting no rest with a full
40 minutes played. Dean was also active defensively, collecting a
game-high four steals.
The Weevils nearly doubled the number of rebounds CBC collected. The
26 offensive rebounds helped UAM dominate the second chance points
category at 27-10. Sixty percent of UAM’s points came from the
paint, where UAM easily edged CBC with a final margin of 52-30.
The Weevils now step into GSC play this Saturday in the Rhodes Field
House at Harding. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and will follow
the women’s game. The game can be heard on the radio on KHBM-FM
