Weevils Drop Heartbreaker to OBU - Move to 0-2 in GSC Play
January 17, 2008
ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas – Raymond
Wright hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, but the University of
Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils dropped its second straight game
in Gulf South Conference play. This game, Ouachita Baptist walked
away with a 67-68 win.
Wright (New York, N.Y.) continued his impressive numbers with
a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Wright was the game’s
high scorer.
Junior Duke Sturdivant (York, Ala.) was, arguably, the most
effective Weevil in the game. Sturdivant connected on 9-of-16 field
goal attempts, including one three-pointer for a game-total of 19
points.
The two teams exchanged 10 lead changes throughout the game, but OBU
pulled away late with its largest lead of eight points at the two
minute mark. UAM’s largest lead was late in the first half with a
three-point lead at the 6:34 mark.
Sophomore Jermaine Samuels (London, England) logged some
productive minutes from the bench, finishing third best on the team
with seven points. Samuels was a perfect 2-of-2 from the field and
3-of-4 from the foul stripe.
With the loss, the Weevils drop to 8-6 overall this season and 0-2
in GSC play this season. OBU improves to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the
GSC.
The next action for the Weevils is Saturday, Jan. 19 at home in the
Steelman Fieldhouse as Delta State travels to Monticello. Tip-off is
scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the radio at KHBM-FM
93.7, which will be streamed live on the Internet at
