The Weevils will
represent UAM as the No. 4 seed from
the GSC West and will face
Montevallo on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at
7:30 p.m. in Southaven, Miss.
Montevallo makes the tournament as
the GSC East’s No. 5 seed.
SAU made the game
interesting, forcing a three-point
margin three times late in the
second half. SAU’s Cameron Butler
scored 13 of his 15 points in the
second half, helping the Muleriders
shoot above 50 percent from the
field in the half, 48 percent in the
entire game.
Junior Deron Brown
(Paris, Ky.) led the Weevils
with 24 points after connecting on
7-of-15 field goal attempts,
including two three pointers. Junior
Raymond Wright (New York,
N.Y.) recorded his 11th
double-double of the season after
scoring 19 points and grabbing 10
rebounds.
True freshman
D’Angelo Dean (Cincinnati, Ohio)
was close behind with 17 points,
while junior Duke Sturdivant
(York, Ala.) was the other Weevil to
reach double digits with 10 points.
With the win, the
Weevils improve their overall record
to 16-11 and 8-6 in the GSC, while
the Muleriders drop to 11-16 overall
and 2-12 in the GSC.
The Weevils have
little time to rest, as the team
will travel to Southaven for the
pre-tournament meetings and
practices on Tuesday, Mar. 4.
