January 31, 2008

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils shot above 60 percent from the field in the first half, taking a seven point lead over Christian Brothers into the locker room at halftime, but shot only 20 percent from the field in the second half – leading to a 54-66 loss, snapping a three-game win streak for the Weevils.

Gulf South Conference leading rebounder Raymond Wright (New York, N.Y.) did not pull down a rebound until around six minutes left in the second half. Wright was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field in the first half, but failed to connect on a field goal in the second half, finishing with 12 points.

Leading the way for the Weevils was junior Deron Brown (Paris, Ky.), who finished the contest with 15 points. Brown was also perfect in the first half after hitting all three of his field goal attempts – all of which were from three-point range. Brown only made two field goals in the second half, finishing 5-of-11.

Junior Duke Sturdivant (York, Ala.) had a strong first half as well, but like most of his teammates in the second half, shot poorly in the second half. Sturdivant finished the contest with nine points.

The Weevil’s led all the way up to the 11:51 mark in the second half, but failed to reach the scoreboard again until the 6:52 mark, with a free throw from Wright.

Leading the way for the Buccaneers was Justin Ray, who tied with Brown for the game high in three-pointers with five made. All of Ray’s field goals were from three-point range. Also reaching double digits for the Bucs was Nick Kohs with 15 points and Kevin Weybright with 14 points.
