MONTICELLO, Ark. – Coach Hud Jackson has announced his 2012 at a press conference this afternoon on the UAM Campus.
Coach Jackson’s class includes 25 players from five states on both sides of the ball. “We are thrilled to be adding so many quality players to our squad this year. These young men should make all Weevil fans proud both on and off the field, and we look forward to seeing each of them develop.”
Dale Bass is a 6-5, 200 pound defensive end out of McGehee, Ark. Bass was named All-Conference, All-State, conference Defensive Player of the Year, All-Seark, and will play in the Arkansas All Star Game.
Troy Brunson is a 5-10, 195 pound linebacker out of Monticello, Ark. Troy was All-State, All-Conference, All-Southeast. He had 65 tackles, 38 assists, 15 tackles for loss and 3 interceptions.
Cedric Burnett is a 5-11, 175 pound free safety out of Watson Chapel High School in Pine Bluff, Ark. Cedric was named to the 2009 6A South All-Conference Team. He was a 2010 5A Southeast all Conference player and 2011 5A Southeast All State player. He also made the A and B honor roll at WCHS.
Trent Collier is a 5-11, 195 pound rover out of Central High School in Memphis. Trent was a two-year starter at Memphis Central also participates in both baseball and football.
Anthony Cowan is a 6-1, 210 pound outside linebacker and defensive end at Cordova High School in Cordova, Tenn. As a senior Anthony had 85 tackles, 4 sacks, and 22 tackles for loss and was named All- District as a junior, recorded 91 tackles 17 tackles for loss 3 forced fumbles and was named All-District. He received the Fletcher Cleaves “Hard as Nails Award.”
Tony Cox is a 6-3, 295 pound defensive tackle out of Arlington High School in Arlington, Tenn. Tony was a two-time first team All-region. During the 2011-12 school year he was named Best of the Preps by the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He also participated in the 2012 Metro Memphis All-Star Game.
Rodney Edmiston is a 6-1, 195 pound safety out of Ensworth High School in Nashville. As a senior, Rodney recorded 48 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception for a touchdown and seven pass deflections. He was nominated for preseason All-State as a senior and made All-District team. He was a two- year starter on a team that won back-to-back state championships, the first championships in school history.
Marshall Everett is a 6-0, 200 pound linebacker out of Bryant, Ark. Marshall completed his High School career with 87 tackles as a three-year starter, and had a game-high 13 tackles against Little Rock Central. Everett received First Team All-Conference Honors.
Ryan Flemmons is a 6-0, 255 pound defensive tackle out of Central High School in Memphis. Ryan received best defensive lineman of the year in 2009. As a sophomore he started at both Offense and Defense. As a power lifter he won the strongest competitor in Memphis Award setting a few state records. He is also a member of the track team as a thrower.
D.J. Green is a 6-2, 285 pound offensive lineman out of Jonesboro, Ark. DJ helped lead the Jonesboro Hurricanes to the Arkansas 6A playoff semi-finals before losing to the eventual state champion, El Dorado. He is a two-time All-Conference player and made the 2011 All-State team. Green was listed as one of the Jonesboro Sun’s “Best Under the Sun” and a member of KAIT’s 2011 Super Team.
Xavier Green is a 6-3, 235 pound defensive end out of Natchez, Miss. Green is a three-year letterman for the Bulldogs. He has a huge frame with plenty of room to grow. He is very versatile and has tremendous explosion off the ball. During his senior year he was asked to play on both offense and defense. On offense he played tackle, while continuing to thrive on defense as a defensive end. He received the team’s Offensive Player of the Year, Team MVP, and earned the 2011 Iron Dog award. Xavier also throws the shot put for the Men’s track team.
Harvey Harrod is a 6-1, 280 pound offensive lineman out of Langham Creek High School in Houston, Texas. He helped lead Langham Creek to the Texas state playoffs with 6-5 record in one of The Lone Star State’s strongest districts. Harrod was named All-District 17-5A as a senior.
Drue Harvey is a 5-10, 190 pound running back out of Star City, Ark. Harvey played on both sides of the ball at SCHS with 245 rushing attempts for 2,111 yards, with 24 touchdowns. He posted 87 catches for 1,218 yards with 14 touchdowns. On defense he had 57 solo tackles and 147 assisted tackles, six interceptions, seven fumble recoveries, and eight forced fumbles. He was named to both the All-Conference, All-State teams.
Michael Hemphill is a 6-3, 210 pound defensive end out of Fordyce, Ark. Hemphill completed this season as one of the best defensive ends in his conference. He finished with 55 tackles, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Hemphill received All-Conference and All-State Honors in 2011.
Andrew Holmes is a 6-2, 295 pound defensive tackle out of Whitehaven High School in Memphis. Holmes is a two-year letter winner and starter at WHS. He was named to the All-District team his senior season.
Kiyan Jones is a 5-9, 170 pound corner back out of Patterson, La. His senior season Patterson went 11-1 and won the District Championship. Jones was named First Team All-District with 37 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He also had three rushing touchdowns.
Raphael Mozie is a 6-1, 290 pound offensive lineman out of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, La. Raphael was a 3 - time letter winner for a team that has produced such players as Warrick Dunn, Travis Minor and Major Applewhite. He is a very versatile athlete that played multiple positions along the offensive line. He was a two time All-District selection, as well as All-Metro, and All-State as a senior. Raphael also threw the shot put for the track team and is a member of the schools wrestling squad.
Dominic Pizzitolo is a 6-2, 225 pound defensive lineman out of Fountainbleau High School in Covington, La. Dominic was a three-year letterman and two-time First Team All-District selection. He was voted team defensive MVP, and was also selected as a team captain. He finished the 2011 campaign with 24 Tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.
Devin Preyer is a 5-9, 175 pound corner back out of Mitchell High School in Memphis. Preyer played three seasons at Mitchell and had 1,000 All-purpose yards and seven interceptions. He was named All-District, All-Metro, All-State, and All-Dream Team from 2011-12.
Elgie Richards is a 6-3, 235 pound quarterback out of Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Ark. Last season he passed for 1,582 yards and 17 touchdowns with a long of 69 yards. Richards had a career-high game against Benton Arkansas where he went 28-33 throwing for 325 yards with three touchdowns. Richards was named to the 6A South First Team All-Conference, 6A South First Team All-State, All-City, and Texarkana Gazette Player of the Week.
E.J. Robinson is a 5-10, 275 pound defensive tackle out of Conway, Ark. He was voted Team Captain his senior season and named All-State and All-Conference. He had 79 tackles with 14 Tackles for loss for -42 yards with two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Trey Taylor is a 5-9, 170 pound wide receiver out of Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, La. Trey is a member of a two-time State Champion at ECA. As a senior he had 31 receptions for 410 yards with seven touchdowns at wide receiver. As a running back he had 140 rushes for 700 yards and six touchdows, and as a quarterback he went 79-for-129 tosses for 1,143 yards and 15 touchdowns. For his efforts he was named to the 2011 1st Team Louisiana All-State, 2011 1st Team All-District, 2011 1st Team All-City in Shreveport.
Trey Tolliver is a 6-2, 292 pound offensive lineman out of Glen Oaks High School in Baton Rouge, La. Trey was the anchor of the offensive line of GOHS that amassed over 2,000 yards, rushing. He was a three-time All-District selection in class 3A. He was selected as a member of the Louisiana Class 3A All-Metro team, as well as being selected to the US Army Red Stick Bowl All-Star Game. He also throws the shot put for the track team and is a member of the school’s wrestling squad.
Nick Williams is a 5-11, 180 pound running back out of DeSoto Central High School in Southaven, Miss. As a senior Williams was voted Mr. DCHS. He was named First Team All-Metro, First Team All-District m team MVP with 9.5 yards per carry. He was also named the Defensive Player of the Year, Special Teams Player of the Year, twice the Ed Jones Player of the Week, and the Ed Jones Player of the Year.
Trey Winchester is a 6-1, 175 wide receiver out of Dumas, Ark. Winchester was a three-year letterman in football named to the All-Region and All-Conference teams. He posted 1,100 career receiving yards with 28 career touchdowns. He finished with over 2,500 all-purpose yards in his career. He was also a four-year all-conference letter winner in baseball at DHS.
