MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team set a new school record for fewest yards allowed in a game in a 78-0 season-opening win over College of Faith at home on Saturday.
The Boll Weevils (1-0) allowed just 18 yards of total offense in the win. UAM limited College of Faith to 53 yards passing and negative 35 yards rushing. In the other column, the UAM offense racked up 498 yards of total offense – 276 through the air and 222 on the ground.
The UAM offense tied school records with 11 total touchdowns and 30 points in the second quarter, while sophomore Chris Roberts tied the UAM individual record with three interceptions.
The Boll Weevils also set the new Great American Conference record with 78 points. The previous record of 75 points was held by Harding, who defeated Shepherd Tech 75-0 during the 2011 season. College of Faith assumed Shepherd Tech's 2012 schedule before the start of the season.

Saturday’s scoring started with an 11-yard touchdown pass from freshman Hunter Leppert to senior Blake Prince at the 11:32 mark of the first quarter to cap a six-play, 43-yard drive that used 1:17.
UAM followed less than a minute later with an eight-yard scoring strike from Leppert to junior Jamal Nixon with 10:39 remaining after COF lost a fumble on its ensuing drive.
Blake Prince found the end zone again for UAM’s next score on an 11-yard touchdown run at the 6:42 mark of the opening quarter to cap a two-play, 15-yard drive.
UAM capped the first quarter scoring with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Leppert to junior Jace Gandy with 1:17 remaining to cap an 11-play, 47-yard drive that used 4:20.
UAM’s record-tying second quarter began with a 32-yard field goal by sophomore Reagan Wise with 12:39 remaining to cap a four-play, 28-yard drive.
Freshman backup quarterback Jacob Lennox took over at that point, recording touchdown runs of two yards and 15 yards at the 9:52 and 5:05 marks, respectively.
Leppert found the end zone again through the air, this time hooking up with freshman Trey Taylor for a 27-yard catch-and-run touchdown with 3:35 remaining in the half.
UAM’s final score of the opening half came on a 42-yard pass from Lennox to freshman Cody Bordelon with 1:46 remaining.
The second half scoring started with Lennox’ third touchdown run of the game, this time from four yards out to cap an 11-play, 65-yard drive that used 6:33. Blake Prince put UAM above the 70-point barrier for the first time since September 16, 2000 with a one-yard touchdown run with 2:55 remaining in the third quarter.
UAM’s final score came on a 10-yard touchdown run by sophomore Joevall Hoseay with 7:05 remaining in regulation.
Leppert finished the game completed 14-of-22 passes for 160 yards with four touchdown passes. Lennox completed 7-of-12 passes for 116 yards with one score. He added a game-high 94 yards rushing to complete his 210 yards of total offense for the game.
Jamal Nixon was the leading receiver in the game with five catches for 69 yards with one touchdown.
In addition to his record-tying three interceptions, Chris Roberts tied junior Jamie Ward for a game-high five tackles. Of Ward’s five tackles, 3.5 were for a loss of a combined 25 yards.
UAM had five quarterback sacks in the win and eight quarterback hurries.
The Boll Weevils continue the 2012 season next Saturday, September 8 on the road against NCAA Division I Northwestern State. Kickoff from Natchitoches, La. is set for 6 p.m.
