HECKEL AND BROOKS NAMED TO ESPN THE MAGAZINE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Seniors Meredith Heckel and Lauren Brooks have been named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine All-Academic Team in the District Six College Division. The selection marks the third consecutive honor for both student-athletes.
 
Heckel (Hot Springs, Ark.) earns her third selection after finishing her degree at UAM in Business with a cumulative 3.91 grade point average. During the 2008 season, Heckel led the team in home runs (15), slugging percentage (.605), on-base percentage (.394), runs scored (43), runs batted in (34), total bases (104), walks (26), and total plate appearances (203).
 
Heckel was recently named to the 2008 UAM Spring Chancellor’s List.
 

Brooks
(West Monroe, La.) earns her third selection after almost posting a perfect academic career at UAM. Brooks finished her degree in exercise science with a 3.97 GPA. During the 2008 season, Brooks was a solid defensive player for the Cotton Blossoms, only committing 11 errors in 54 games, finishing with a .948 fielding percentage.
 
Brooks recently joined Heckel on the 2008 UAM Spring Chancellor’s List.
