SOUTHAVEN,
Mississippi – Junior Andrea
Dubose has been named to the 2008
All-Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball
Second Team, one day before the Blossoms
take on Alabama-Huntsville in the 2008 GSC
Basketball Championship Tournament.
Dubose (Hickory,
Miss.) was the only UAM player to make
either 2008 team, after leading the Blossoms
in scoring, assists, steals, and minutes
played in the 2007-08 season.
Dubose is currently leading
the Blossoms and is the 11th best
scorer in the conference with an average of
13.0 points per game.
Dubose has made her presence
known on the basketball court this season
with her quickness and high pressure
defense, leading to a great amount of
takeaways. Dubose leads the conference in
steals with an average of just over 3.6 per
game. She has been in or around the top 10
in the nation in that category for most of
the season.
The transfer from East
Central Community College has scored 10 or
more points in 20 games this season,
including her season high of 25 points in a
win over Central Baptist in December.
Dubose recorded her season
high of eight steals in a win over
Montevallo in the Ouachita Baptist Classic
in December. Also in the Montevallo game,
Dubose recorded her only double-double of
the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
On a team that has no problem
shooting the three-pointer, Dubose is one of
the leaders. She leads the team with 65
three-pointers made and trails only teammate
Janette Thompson in three-point field goal
percentage.
Dubose joins fellow GSC West
players Crystal Shelton from Christian
Brothers, Jessica Boyd from Delta State,
Stacey Owens from Harding, and Goldie White
from Southern Arkansas on the 2008 All-GSC
Second Team.
Dubose and the Blossoms open
Gulf South Conference Tournament play today
(March 5) against Alabama-Huntsville at
12:30 p.m. at the DeSoto County Civic Center
in Southaven, Miss.
