SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team was defeated by St. Mary’s University by a final score of 66-56 on Tuesday.
The Lady Rattlers (3-1) out-rebounded the Cotton Blossoms (1-2) by a final margin of 45-27, 19 of which were off the offensive glass, leading to 14 second-chance points for STMU.
UAM was led by junior Erika Brown’s 14 points off the bench, followed by 12 points from junior Nykita Gordon and 11 points from junior Ambra Smith.
As a team, UAM shot 37.5 percent from the field (21-of-56), 14.3 percent from three-point range (3-of-21) and 57.9 percent from the foul line (11-of-19). The Cotton Blossoms committed 22 turnovers and collected 17 steals.
STMU was led by Kristen Williams’ 15 points. Mareta Bailey and Nicole James also reached double-figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Rattlers shot 39.3 percent from the field (22-of-56), 25 percent from three-point range (2-of-8) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (20-of-24). The team committed 26 turnovers and only collected five steals.
The Cotton Blossoms remain in San Antonio for a contest against Incarnate Word on Wednesday, November 25. Opening tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
