FREE-THROWS LEAD BLOSSOMS TO 3-GAME WIN STREAK

CARROLLTON, Ga.   The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team is now on a three-game win streak thanks to 89.3 percent free-throw shooting in a 53-48 win over West Georgia on Sunday.

 

UAM (5-5) set a new season high for free-throw percentage and free throws made. The Cotton Blossoms hit 25-of-28 foul shots in the win over UWG (5-8).

 

Senior Nykita Gordon and junior Erika Brown each scored a team-high 10 points. Brown added seven rebounds, while Gordon picked up five boards and also had two assists and two steals in the win. Sophomore Chelsea Johnson led all players with nine rebounds.

 

As a team, the Cotton Blossoms shot 33.3 percent from the field (13-of-39) and 15.4 percent from three-point range (2-of-13). The Wolves shot 32.1 percent from the field (17-of-53), 37.5 percent from three-point range (6-of-16) and 57.1 percent from the free-throw line (8-of-14).

 

West Georgia’s Renate Lopez and Whitley Mayberry tied for the game-high lead of 12 points.

 

The Cotton Blossoms break for Christmas and then travel to Jackson, Tenn. on December 30 to face Lambuth at 2 p.m. Lambuth beat UAM 78-61 earlier this season in Monticello.
