Charles Dearman was the linchpin of Convoy Leslie’s football dynasty at UAM in the 1950's.

Big for his era, Dearman turned down major college offers to travel from Warren to Monticello to play as a two-way guard for Leslie’s Boll Weevils.

Dearman was a two-time All-AIC selection and was named to both the NAIA and Associated Press Little All-America teams following his senior season in 1957. Dearman was the first athlete in any sport in school history to be named to a recognized All-America team (UAM had five honorable mention All-Americans before Dearman but never a first, second or third teamer).

During his four seasons, the Boll Weevils posted a records of 4-4, 7-2, 7-1-1, and 9-2 and won the first three of four straight AIC championships from 1955-58.
