Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team struggled both offensively and defensively in a 47-0 loss to Henderson State Saturday at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.
With the loss, UAM falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference, while the Reddies improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the GSC.
HSU senior quarterback Nick Hardesty headlined the contest with 415 yards through the air on 18 completions. Hardesty added three passing touchdown passes to his final totals.
UAM was without the services of its star quarterback Scott Buisson, who had made 37 consecutive starts prior to Saturday’s shutout loss and became the state of Arkansas’ all-time leader in total offense last week in a loss to Arkansas Tech. Buisson’s injury to his throwing hand in the loss to ATU required surgery and his status for the rest of the season remains questionable.
The Reddies took a 33-0 lead and almost 300 yards of total offense into the locker room at halftime. HSU finished the contest with 550 yards of total offense, mostly through the air with a final tally of 475 passing yards.
In addition to HSU’s five offensive touchdowns and one field goal, the Reddies had an interception return for a touchdown and a safety.
UAM returns to Monticello for its next two contests, starting with a 7 p.m. kickoff this Thursday, October 7 against Delta State for the GSC-TV Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium.
