Box Score SEARCY, Ark. – Despite forcing five turnovers, the University of Arkansas at Monticello football team lost to Harding University 33-26 on Saturday at First Security Stadium.
After trailing UAM 10-7 in the first half, the Bisons (4-4, 2-4 Gulf South Conference) put together a 19-0 scoring run in the third quarter, which included a blocked punt that went out of the back of the end zone for a safety.
The Boll Weevils (3-6, 2-5 GSC) answered with a five-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Scott Buisson to junior Greg Taylor with 7:48 left in the game, which was followed by a successful pass attempt from Buisson to senior receiver Steven Porter for the two-point conversion to put UAM down by eight points at 26-18.
On a second-and-three from the Bison 48 on Harding’s ensuing possession, HU quarterback Josh Powell completed a pass to Colton Kamper for 42-yards, but UAM senior cornerback Marcus VanBuren came across the field to strip the receiver of the football. Senior teammate James Jackson recovered the fumble and put together a 21-yard return to give UAM a first down at its own 30-yard line. However, after the offense was held to only seven yards on the ensuing possession, senior Derek Jambon was sacked at the 31-yard line on the fake punt.
Harding put seven more points on the scoreboard on its next possession with a nine-yard pass from Powell to Braden Rubey to put the Bisons up 33-18 with 3:15 left in the game.
The Boll Weevils marched down the field and scored on their next possession on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Buisson to senior Jywin Ceasar with 1:21 remaining in the game to cap a seven-play, 56-yard drive that used 1:47.
UAM’s on-side kick attempt failed, allowing Harding to run out the remaining 1:16.
Buisson finished the contest 18-of-35 through the air with 201 yards, two touchdown tosses and three interceptions, his first three interception game since the 2008 season. He also netted 64 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Junior Nakita Myles led the team in rushing with 15 carries for 76 yards, including his 13-yard touchdown rush.
Ceasar finished the game with five catches for 60 yards to move him into first place all-time at UAM in pass receptions. The Marrero, La. native now has 190 career receptions for 2,282 yards.
The Boll Weevils are set to play their final conference game next Saturday, November 6 in El Dorado for the 2nd Annual Boomtown Classic against Southern Arkansas. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
