BOLL WEEVILS HANG ON FOR GSC ROAD WIN AT OUACHITA

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team pulled off a 37-31 win over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at A.U. Williams field to begin the Gulf South Conference portion of the 2010 schedule. 

With the win, UAM improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in GSC games, while the Tigers fall to 2-1 and 0-1.

The two squads combined for 802 yards of total offense, with the Tigers coming out on top in that category with 458 yards to UAM’s 344.

UAM outscored the Tigers 27-17 in the first half, including a 17-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Scott Buisson and a 69-yard touchdown pass from Buisson to senior Joseph Lockwood. However, the running game was the highlight of the first half with junior Nakita Myles scoring on seven and 41-yard touchdown runs. Myles finished the game with 14 carries for a career-high 131 yards, averaging out to 9.4 yards per carry.

In the second half, UAM scored on a 43-yard field goal by freshman Taylor Pontius and a 27-yard touchdown pass from Buisson to senior Steven Porter.

Buisson finished the night 10-for-21 through the air with 181 yards, two touchdown tosses and no interceptions.

OBU running back Daniel McGee had a strong second half with a pair of three-yard touchdown runs. McGee, who entered the game leading the conference in rushing, finished with 26 carries for an even 100 yards. He helped the Tigers outscore the Boll Weevils 14-10 in the second half.

Defensively for the Boll Weevils, junior strong safety Royel Johnson had a busy night, racking up a career-high 18 tackles. Senior free safety Augustus Ashley followed closely with 11 tackles, while senior linebacker Carlton Johnson also reached double-figures with 10 tackles.

UAM continues its Gulf South Conference schedule next Saturday, September 25 at home against Arkansas Tech. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Convoy Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium. UAM is hosting “Parent and Family Appreciation Day.”
