BUISSON BECOMES STATE'S TOTAL OFFENSE LEADER IN LOSS TO ATU

Box Score MONTICELLO – Senior quarterback Scott Buisson became the all-time total offense leader among all colleges in the state of Arkansas in a heart-breaking 30-25 loss to the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys on Saturday.

Buisson did so despite missing parts of two offensive possessions in the second half with an injury to his throwing hand. He finished the game 18-of-35 through the air with 267 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions thrown. His -18 rushing yards pushed him back to 249 yards of total offense for the game. He only needed 206 yards to break the record. He now has 11,037 career total offense yards, breaking former Central Arkansas quarterback Nathan Brown’s record of 10,993 yards from 2005-08.

Buisson also broke the UAM record for career touchdown passes. He now has 63 touchdown tosses, breaking Kevin McCarn's record of 61 from 1997-2000.

Arkansas Tech quarterback Rico Keller stole the show offensively with 22 carries for 209 rushing yards with a pair of touchdowns. He was 10-of-26 through the air for 78 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. It was the first time a UAM opponent has rushed for at least 200 yards since Kyle Wess of Harding had exactly 200 rushing yards in the 2006 matchup.

The Wonder Boys (2-2, 1-1 GSC) had the only points in the first quarter with 22-yard field goal by Cody Jones with 7:33 remaining.

The Boll Weevils (2-2, 1-1 GSC) opened the second quarter’s scoring and took the lead on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Buisson to senior Jywin Ceasar with 13:23 left in the half.

On UAM’s next possession, Arkansas Tech’s Joe Means regained the lead for the Wonder Boys on a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Buisson tossed his second touchdown of the night on the very next offensive play, connecting with junior DJ Stephens for a 64-yard score to put UAM back on top, this time with a 14-10 advantage with 9:14 left in the half.

Keller answered for the Wonder Boys with a 33-yard touchdown run with 6:24 left in the half. Following a blocked extra-point attempt, ATU held a 16-14 lead going in the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, ATU took advantage of another UAM turnover, when a busted option play resulted in a 15-yard recovery and return for a touchdown by ATU’s Brandon Wright to put the Wonder Boys on top 23-14.

After forcing a UAM punt, Keller busted through the UAM defense again for another long touchdown run, this time from 58 yards out to put the Wonder Boys on top 30-14 with 12:27 left in the third quarter.

UAM closed out the game’s scoring with 10 unanswered points on a 42-yard interception return by senior Carlton Johnson with a successful two-point conversion, followed by a 21-yard field goal by freshman Taylor Pontius with 9:50 left in the contest.

After stopping an ATU fourth down conversion attempt from the one-yard line, Buisson drove the Boll Weevils 80 yards, including a 41-yard pass to senior tight end Josh Green and 40-yard fourth-down completion to senior receiver Steven Porter. Following the completion to Porter, Buisson was intercepted by ATU’s Michael Chapman in the end zone to seal the win for the Wonder Boys.

The Boll Weevils head back to Arkadelphia next Saturday, October 2 for a GSC meeting with the Henderson State Reddies. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium on the HSU campus.
