OUACHITA SLIPS PAST @WEEVILFOOTBALL

ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team was less than a touchdown away from securing a Great American Conference road victory on Saturday in a 20-17 loss to defending conference champion Ouachita Baptist.

The Weevils (1-7) got to within a field goal with 3:55 remaining in regulation on a fourth-down, two-yard touchdown run by sophomore Jeremy Jackson to cap a 10-play, 74-yard drive that used just under five minutes.

Ouachita (5-3) responded by getting three first downs on its ensuing drive, and with UAM having no timeouts to spare, the Tigers ran out the clock for the win.

The Tigers scored the game's first 10 points with a two-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter and a 37-yard field goal with 9:43 remaining in the second quarter.

UAM began chipping away and answered with 10 straight points of its own, starting with a one-yard touchdown run by junior Brett Courville out of the heavy package with 6:19 remaining before halftime. OBU led 10-7 at the break after missing a 40-yard field goal as time expired.

Junior kicker Jamie McGee recorded his 30th career field goal and seventh of the season with a 23-yarder at the 6:28 mark of the third quarter to force a 10-all tie. The Tigers answered with a field goal of their own to regain the lead at 13-10 with three minutes remaining in the third period.

Ouachita took advantage of an interception to go up by 10 in the final minute of the third quarter with a short two-play, 30-yard drive that was capped with a 26-yard touchdown run by Kris Oliver.

Both teams exchanged punts in the next four possessions to set the stage for UAM's final scoring drive ending with Jeremy Jackson's fourth down touchdown run.

UAM outgained Ouachita 384-346. The Weevils had four more first downs than the Tigers and had a 221-62 edge in passing offense. Ouachita out-rushed UAM 284-163.

The Weevils are back on the road next Saturday, October 31 in Ada, Oklahoma to face off against East Central. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
