Men's Golf Finish Their Season at the GAC Conference Championship

The men recently finished up their season at the Great American Conference Championship at Hot Springs County Club. The Men's team competed in one of the top conferences in Division II golf with 6 of the 10 teams in the top 50 in the nation. The Weevils finished 9th out of 10 teams with a score of 914 (312, 298, 304). The freshman, Tyler Garrigus, finished the tournament with a score of 240 (83,77,80). Wilson Powell fired a three-round total of 234 (77,78,79). Jeff Whitson shot 232 (78,76,78). Stephane Perrin finished tied 26th with a 227 (78,73,76). Kinley Lee finished his senior year this week firing 222 (79,72,71) and landing him a share of the 16th spot.

Kinley Lee finished his collegiate career Tuesday (April 16th) with the last round of 71 (1 under). He spent all four years with UAM and is considered the most decorated player in UAM history. Kinley Lee is going to graduate this spring with a bachelor's in accounting and a GPA of 3.83. Kinley reflects on his academic and collegiate career, "My four years here have flown by, but I'm thankful for all the experience and growth UAM has provided for me." Because of Kinley's leadership, this golf program has become a strong competitor in the GAC. "The golf program is in a better place now than when I arrived here, and I am certain that Coach Buie is exactly the guy to make UAM golf a conference contender in the coming years."

Coach Buie has a lot to say about Kinley's accomplishments and the team's as well. "He is probably the best and most accomplished player in school history. When he broke his humerus in January I honestly thought he would not play again… With his hard work and dedication, he was able to compete in four Spring events and still manage to make the All-Conference team. He was also awarded the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award for the GAC." Coach Buie has a lot of confidence in our potential for next season. "The Men's team should continue to improve with lots of experience in returning seniors Wilson Powell, Stephane Perrin, and Jeff Whitson."

Be sure to congratulate Kinley Lee on a spectacular career and look forward to much more improvement in the upcoming season.
