THE MATCHUP
Saturday's contest will be the ninth meeting between these two teams in the series. SWOSU leads the all-time series with a record of 5-3. Although the Boll Weevils have never won a game at Southwestern Oklahoma State, they are 3-1 at Cotton Boll Stadium.
LAST MEETING
Currently, the Bulldogs' winning streak over UAM is two. Last year, the two teams played at SWOSU and Southwestern Oklahoma State beat Arkansas at Monticello, 49-35. The game was quite frankly a shootout.
Cole Sears was 26-of-52 for 283 yards and a touchdown as he was trying to keep up with Bulldogs' quarterback Casey Freeman who had record-setting numbers of 18-for-26 for 416 yards and 7 TD's.
LOOKING TO WIN AT HOME
The Boll Weevils last win over SWOSU was when the two teams last met at Cotton Boll Stadium in 2016. UAM combined for 341 yards of total offense and won, 35-28.
LAST WEEK AT NO. 22 HARDING
After the overtime victory over Arkansas Tech in week one, UAM never found the scoreboard at No. 22 Harding in week two. The Bisons defense held the Boll Weevils to just 158 yards of total offense and won, 24-0. For UAM's last shutout loss, we have to go all the way back to 2015 when Southeastern Oklahoma State defeated Arkansas at Monticello on Senior Day, 37-0.
THE FIRST THREE GAMES
UAM has never gone 3-0 through its first three contests in the Great American Conference era. However, if it earns a victory Saturday, it will go 2-1 through its first three games for the third time since 2011.
CREEPING TOWARD A PROGRAM MILESTONE
Although Arkansas at Monticello did not join NCAA Division II football until 1995, it has been a college football program since 1911. With that being said, UAM is just two wins away from 400 as a program sitting at 398.
LIMITING THE PASSING GAME
UAM is currently first in the GAC in pass defense holding opponents to just 71.5 yards per game. Now, that number may be a little skewed since Harding had just one pass attempt last week but pass coverage has been good either way. The Boll Weevils are holding opponents to just a 36.5 completion percentage. Defensive backs
Kerenzo Credit has four passes defended which is tied for the GAC lead and
Jonathan Scott has three which is tied for fifth in the conference.
STAYING DISCIPLINED
In its first two contests, UAM has seemed to be one of the more disciplined teams in the conference recording the least amount of penalties in the league. The team has been flagged just eight times for a total of 63 yards.
JEFFERSON CAN TRACK YOU DOWN
Christian Jefferson has been solid in the secondary in recording tackles. He is third in the conference currently with 21 total tackles with 13 of them being of the solo variety.
LEGIER LOOMING FOR LOSSES
Linebacker
Justin Legier has been outstanding in getting to the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. He is among the league leaders in tackles for loss recording 3.5 for -8 yards, which is second in the GAC.
GETTING THEM OFF THE FIELD
Another important team defensive stat is the UAM defense leads the conference in third-down stops. Opponents are just 4-of-24 on third downs, which is good for just 16.7 percent.
SCOUTING SWOSU
The Bulldogs are one of four teams that are undefeated through their first two contests. SWOSU has been tough to stop on offense ranking third in the GAC in scoring (29.5 points per game) and in total offense (411.4 yards per game).
DEFENDING THE PASS
UAM has proven that it can defend against the pass thus far in 2019, which is a good thing; since Southwestern Oklahoma State is second in the conference in pass offense (292.0 yards per game).
