Weevils Look to Tame the Tigers on Senior Day

The UAM Football team looks to take down East Central University in their Week 10, Senior Day showdown

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Fresh off a hard loss last weekend, the University of Arkansas at Monticello football team hosts East Central University for on Saturday. The contest will be the final home game of the season, as well as Senior Day for the UAM Football team. The Weevils with kickoff set for 2 p.m. at Willis "Convoy" Leslie Cotton Boll Stadium.

The Matchup

Weevils look to trim the claws. After falling to Southeastern Oklahoma St. University last weekend the Weevils look to end the losing streak. The Weevils look to collect their 5th win while the East Central Tigers look to collect their 6th. With the Weevils a game behind the Tigers this game is looking to be a close and intense matchup.

Last Meeting

The last time these two teams met was on October 5th 2019. The Weevils were triumphant in this contest, defeating the Tigers by a score of 49-46. The Weevil offense pulled through and kept the points coming to put the Tigers after a 3 hour long game the second longest game of the season.

About Last Week

The Weevils struggled to find their ground as they lost to Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SEOSU) on Saturday by a score of 34-14. SEOSU had a 3-0 lead in first quarter, after Trey Keatts kicked a 39 yard field goal. SEOSU continued the lead in the second quarter after Deundre Wheeler ran a four yard touchdown and Ryan Taylor ran a 20 yard touchdown, leaving the score 17-0. UAM responded with a 14 yard passing touchdown to C.J. Parham, with a score of 7-17 at halftime. SEOSU tacked on to their lead in the third quarter with two more touchdowns. The two touchdowns were both thrown by Daulton Hatley for a total of 31 passing yards.Despite their best efforts, the Weevils couldn't break the SEOSU defense. UAM responded in the fourth quarter by a two yard running touchdown by Demilon Brown, with the final score 34-14. The rushing touchdowns were ran by SEOSU CJ Shavers, Ryan Taylor,and Deundre Wheeler for a combined total of 159 yards.Demilon Brown paced the Weevils on the ground, racking up 74 rushing yards. LeCedric Smith led the way in the receiving category as he tallied 6 catches for 85 yards.

Winners of the One Possession Games

UAM has been masterful at winning close games this season as three of the four Weevils' victories have been decided by one possession.

Time to level the playing field

UAM Football is looking to take down East Central University who is 5-4 this season. With the want and drive to end the losing streak, the Weevils look to put up a fight to make the most out of their last home game of the season.

Demilon Brown Leads the Charge

Demilon Brown has been the catalyst for the UAM offense as he paces the team with 214 passing yards per game and has used his elusiveness in the pocket to scamper for 75 yards per contest.

Receiving Core

The Weevils are led by a trio of receivers. Senior wide receiver C.J. Parham leads the way for UAM with 657 yards and six touchdowns on the season. Parham ranks seventh in the conference in receiving yards and total receptions (47) Fellow senior tight end DeAndre Washington has 27 receptions for 335 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensive Depth

Defensively, 18 different Weevils have registered double-digit total tackles this season with eight UAM athletes already surpassing 20 tackles. Kaytron Allen has tallied a team-leading 54 tackles.

Defending the Pass

Six players have collected an interception so far this season for UAM. DeQuan Street leads the secondary with two picks to go along with one pass breakup. Kaytron Allen and Greg Hooks each have two interceptions and combined for seven pass breakups.

Scouting the Tigers

East Central University is 5-4 on the season. Offensively, the Tigers are ranked 8th in the GAC in scoring and 8th in total yards averaging 25.2 points and 347.8 yards per game. On defense, ECU is surrendering 29.9 points per game, while giving up 209 yards per contest.

ECU Ground Game

The Tigers will rely heavily on the ground game as ECU ranks fourth in the conference in rushing yards per game, with 159.1 yards. Ontario Douglas leads the way for the Tigers with 82.8 yards per game.

UP NEXT

UAM is on the road to take on Southern Arkansas University on Nov. 13th, for the last conference game of the season. The showdown between the Weevils and the Muleriders is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
