MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team played their final game of the 2023 season on Saturday evening when the Boll Weevils traveled to play Great American Conference rival Southern Arkansas University in the 2023 Battle of the Timberlands. UAM came out of the contest with a 60-17 loss to conclude the year.
Arkansas-Monticello struggled to stop the Mulerider offense for majority of the game, finding moments of glory to score a few touchdowns of their own. The offense would put up 291 total offensive yards in the match-up.
Caden Middleton and
Austin Wadsworth each contributed a touchdown on the game. Both connecting with
Javonnie Gibson for a touchdown.
Middleton gave a 12-23 performance, and Wadsworth a 6-12 showing, with a combined 184 passing yards. Gibson led UAM in receiving for three receptions and 85 total yards, with the longest being a 64-yarder. On the ground, senior Boll Weevil
Gary Ferman led UAM with eight carries for a net total of 35 yards.
Defensively,
Alfernee Hankins, Jakerrias Scott, and Joshua McGarity all had nine total tackles on the day with five, four, and six solo stops on the night, respectively.
Senior kicker
Zachary Grisotti led the day in extra point attempts, going 2-2.

"Fought hard. Season was filled with many valleys that this group will learn from. Some young players got valuable experience that will pay off in future. These seniors never quit. Kept fighting and they were great examples of men who will overcome in their lives. We will be better because that is who we are. I am going to fight to make us a factor in this conference!! Eat'em up!"

- 01:54 – SAU | OB Jones rushed one yard into the UAM endzone for the second time on the game.

- 14:28 – SAU | Jariq Scales ran 45 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the game.
- 09:49 – SAU | Arkez Gomez ran one yard to score Southern Arkansas' final points.
